Makes: 2-3 cups
What You Need:
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
4-5 cloves garlic, minced
⅛ teaspoon sea salt, divided
½ - 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
½ - 1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 large (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
1 handful basil leaves, cut into thin strips
What You Do:
Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Add garlic cloves and a pinch of salt. Lower heat slightly and sauté gently until soft.
Add red pepper flakes and oregano. Saute 1-2 minutes.
Add tomatoes and remaining salt. Bring to a low boil. Reduce to medium low heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes or longer to reduce and intensify flavor. Adjust seasoning with salt and red pepper flakes.
Before serving, stir in the fresh basil.
